2008 Holiday Survey
Key Findings
- 347 organizations participated from central and eastern North Carolina.
- 45% of organizations are manufacturing-based; 55% are non-manufacturing.
- Almost 100% of organizations provide paid holidays. On average, 9 paid holidays are provided.
- Less than 4% of organizations provide unpaid holidays, however, 41% provide floating holidays.
- 43% of organizations reported that nonexempt employees may be scheduled to work on a recognized holiday.
- 38% of organizations reported that nonexempt employees who work holidays are paid straight time plus holiday pay; 32% reported time-and-a-half plus holiday pay.
- 5% of organizations plan to be closed the entire week of Independence Day in 2008 (June 30th – July 4th).
- 82% of organizations plan to be closed on both Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving in 2008.
- 14% of organizations plan to be closed the entire week of Christmas in 2008 (December 22nd – 26th).
- 22% of organizations plan to be closed on both New Year’s Eve 2008 and New Year’s Day 2009.
