2008 Employment and Labor Law Update
Everything you need to know about recent developments in state and federal employment law
In today's world, where things change at nano-speed, it is more important than ever for employers to be knowledgeable of the latest developments in employment laws and regulations. Make sure you are protected by attending CAI's annual two-day Employment and Labor Law Update.
CAI is delighted to announce a powerful new addition to the agenda
Victoria Lipnic, Assistant Secretary of Labor for the Employment Standards Administration (ESA), will discuss the past, present and future of FMLA.
The ESA is the largest agency within the U.S. Department of Labor. Under the leadership of Assistant Secretary Lipnic the ESA is responsible for administering and enforcing numerous laws and regulations that set employment standards for most of America's workers. Those laws and regulations include: minimum wage, overtime, child labor, family and medical leave, and migrant farm worker provisions; workers' compensation benefits to certain employees injured on the job; non-discrimination and equal employment opportunity by federal contractors and sub-contractors; as well as the laws which ensure fiscal responsibility and democracy in most labor organizations.
In addition to Assistant Secretary Lipnic, the program will feature:
- Dennis Davis, a very popular speaker at the 2006 Employment and Labor Law Update, returns to talk about smart hiring practices
- Experienced attorneys from Ogletree Deakins providing you with updates on state and federal employment law, information about recent court decisions affecting HR policies and practices, and practical tips on managing your workforce
- A session with a plaintiff's attorney talking about the many ways employers leave themselves unprotected
- A mock deposition to show you all of the things your managers need to know to help you avoid litigation
